Policies for Reimbursement for Boykin Spaniel Health Testing
We would like to remind all current BSS members that it is essential to submit the results of your BSS registered dogs' inherited disease tests to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals OFA to qualify for reimbursement from the Boykin Spaniel Foundation BSF. Health testing for Boykin Spaniels is not just a procedural step; it is an essential commitment to the well-being of our beloved breed. By participating in health testing, you not only ensure the vitality and longevity of your own dogs but also contribute to the broader health landscape of Boykin Spaniels as a whole.
To be eligible for reimbursement, BSS members must:
Must be a current BSS member and have a BSS registered Boykin Spaniel
Ensure that all test documents for hip, patellar, Collie Eye Anomaly CEA, Degenerative Myelopathy DM, Exercise Induced Collapse EIC, eyes, and cardiac are completed and submitted to OFA.
Submit valid OFA certificates for each test via email or US mail to the Boykin Spaniel Foundation for reimbursement
One set of eligible tests (see below) will be reimbursed in a dog's lifetime.
 A maximum of one set of eligible tests (see below) reimbursed per year.
Eligible tests for reimbursement include: hips, eyes, heart, patellar, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), and Exercise-Induced Collapse (EIC) tests. This policy is designed to encourage proactive health management and ensure that our community prioritizes the well-being of their dogs.
Approved reimbursements will be processed and checks issued quarterly, specifically in the months of February, May, August, and November. This schedule is designed to align with the OFA’s health import data file from the previous quarter of Boykin Spaniels tested.
The Reimbursement Fee Schedule allows for a one-time reimbursement per Boykin Spaniel for the following essential health tests:
